ABC’s Of Bourbon: F-Filled

Posted 25 Aug 2010

We’re almost to the end and just like the last 2, the 6th Maker's bottles being filled2standard dealswith proof again.  In order to be called a bourbon, the bottles must be “Filled” at no less than 80 proof(40%abv).  There are bourbons, however, that do have a higher proof than 80…that’s fine, it just can’t be lower.  Also, There are some bourbon based cordials out there having a slightly lower proof than 80, but don’t be fooled, those are not bourbon.  Check back soon for the last standard that makes a bourbon a bourbon(”No Additives”) and the wrap up to my ABC’s Of Bourbon series.

A – American Made

B – Barrels

C – Corn

D – Distilled

E – Entered

F – Filled

G- No Additives

ABOUT
My name is Phil Block. I'm from the south suburbs of Chicago, Tinley Park. Now I'm living in the city and working in the liquor industry where i have been for over 3 years.

I love what I do and like keeping people informed on what's going on by evaluating spirits like whisky, vodka, gin, etc. I'm talking about new product launches, trends in the liquor industry, good deals, and straight up taste. If we're going to buy spirits, shouldn't we know what we're drinking? Stay informed with me.
